Tits and Clits (3)

 So one of the readings I did for the underground comics was Tits and Clits which was an underground comic done by women. It was very interesting and nice to read since it is from the perspective of women. It was cool to see such a different variety of art styles. Some were very simplistic while some were more defined but besides the styles of the comic, it was about what they wanted to convey. It was nice and interesting to see women's views on sexuality and other topics in underground comics. I thought there were some good comedy bits in the comic like the fake advertisement of the vibrator cozies (also like the little description for each cozy which I thought were pretty funny). I did enjoy that there were personal experiences or thoughts of the comic creators like the one for example where one of the artists had a fantasy on wanting to peg a man and eventually actually doing it. I overall like that this is very much still an underground comic there is no censorship and it is all just out there just from women's perspective. Different subject matter especially focus on sex and sexuality was really refreshing to see and it is all about "let it all hang out", most of the stories in the comics are very much things that women can relate to in some shape or form. I think that also reflected on how the comics were composed some were very kind of standard comic and some were looser and free-flowing when it came to how they set up their panels. Again overall I enjoyed reading Tits and Clits for the perspective on women and it's just as resist self-censorship as any underground comic.

 I never read or watched The Handmaid's tale before but I have been interested in it, so I have to say the graphic novel adaption I liked the art and the traditional watercolor. I also like the color choices they would use in the story like I know the women have set color and outfits for their role in the story's society but how it is used in the comic very much sets the mood or even when they do completely black backgrounds to make the characters and scenes really pop and call to the attention to the reader is very interesting. I found the flow to be appealing too like some pages are not all panels some are more illustrative or out of frame, I found to be really enamored with those pages. The Comic Book History of Comics (3)

 After reading The Comic Book History of Comics, first I will say it was a very interesting and informative read while being somewhat humorous. I also found a lot of the subjects they talked about fascinating like how comics evolved and the shifts in media. Although what I found to be particularly interesting to me was how comics were developed and viewed in different cultures. Like how in American comics were more dominated by a particular genre for certain eras; like how WWII brought about the age of superheroes while in Europe their comics were never really dominated by a certain genre but instead had a wide variety of different genres and franchises. It was interesting the respect American comic creators got from Europe while American's themselves held some contempt for them and the fact that Europe did not have harsh censorship compared to the comic code in America which gave them the freedom of a more adult audience and market.
